The skin-based skis - or gliding snowshoes as some call them - are the most quiet method to get into the snowy nature. The sparkling, glittery snow hardly makes any sound when we glide through the landscape and admire the peaceful atmosphere of the Arctic winter. The occasional little up- and downhills add a little extra fun to the day but it's not too difficult. You don't need to have skied ever before to try this.

We take you to our favorite places in the southern part of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. We share some stories about the local nature and animals but also about the Lappish lifestyle. This is an enjoyable tour where surrounding nature and calming atmosphere is the thing. Around halfway we’ll have a break with warm juice and a small snack.

On our backcountry ski tours we enjoy the rugged beauty of the fells at our "backyard". The most important thing is not the steepest and deepest slopes but the touring itself in the pristine areas. Obviously, if the conditions on the windy fells allow, we aim at finding great snow wherever it may hide that day. Thanks to our strong local knowledge, finding some soft turns is not a mission impossible even on the windiest crust days.

We start the day by getting familiar with the equipment and basic skills. Soon we start touring up the fells while also familiarizing ourselves with the area, snow, ski technique and snow safety issues. At a suitable spot we enjoy a light lunch to keep the energy levels up.

Safety is priority number one: We avoid avalanche terrain and focus on the safe, gentle slopes.

Note: Good skills in downhill / alpine skiing is a must. No prior ski touring experience needed.

F(j)ell skis are the kind of skis that are most often used on Arctic expeditions. On day tours, they are very enjoyable in the flat and uphill, but also manageable in easy downhills. In Norway and in Northern Sweden and Finland, these skis are the most classic choice for a day outside the marked trails.

This guided full-day tour leads up to the open fells for fabulous landscapes and sceneries. The tour starts with an ascent to the fells by skis, supported with climbing skins. Up on the fell we ski tour enjoying the surrounding nature and atmosphere. Around halfway we’ll have a break with a warm lunch prepared by the guide. On the tour you’ll hear about the local nature and animals but also about the Lappish lifestyle.

For someone that has never tried cross-country skiing (= langlauf), it sure helps if someone offers you some advice to get started with. Also people with some, but limited experience, are guaranteed to get some good tips on how to make their skiing easier and more enjoyable.

The goal here is not to maximize your speed but to help you get started and make the day(s) on xc skis much more enjoyable!
